Job summary

Discovery Limited in Sandton, South Africa, seeks a Senior Data Scientist to join the Data Science Lab. You will build and deploy ML models for risk, product and customer insights, using Python, R and SQL on large data sets.

The role requires strong statistical thinking, experience with gradient boosting, neural nets and ensemble methods, and the ability to translate findings into business impact. You will collaborate across disciplines, mentor juniors and contribute to cutting-edge analytics

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, OR, CS or Engineering.
• Proven experience building and deploying ML models to solve business problems.
• Proficiency in Python, R and SQL for data analysis.
• Experience with gradient boosting, random forests or neural networks.

Responsibilities

• Identify and build models to predict risk, sales and savings.
• Present data insights and model findings to senior stakeholders.
• Mine and visualise large structured and unstructured data to inform product design and risk management.
• Follow model implementations through to business adoption.
• Monitor model performance and use feedback for improvement.
• Run experiments to evaluate different models in a reproducible manner.
