Senior Data Modeler - Enterprise Data Warehouse

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Modeler to lead the design, development, and ongoing evolution of dimensional data models for a large-scale enterprise data warehouse, primarily built on Amazon Redshift. This role is critical in shaping the analytical capabilities of our enterprise platform, ensuring data is trustworthy, structured effectively, and optimized for informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and maintenance of enterprise-grade dimensional models adhering to Kimball methodology.
• Develop fact tables, dimensions, conformed dimensions, and implement robust surrogate key strategies.
• Ensure data models are optimized for Amazon Redshift performance, including strategic use of distribution styles, sort keys, and understanding query patterns.
• Review and refactor existing data models to enhance usability, performance, and scalability.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries on Amazon Redshift for in-depth analysis, data validation, and performance tuning.
• Profile source data to validate modelling assumptions and inform design decisions.
• Partner closely with data engineers and analysts to align data modelling decisions with ELT/ETL implementation strategies.
• Facilitate requirements and data modelling workshops with business stakeholders and data knowledge workers.
• Translate business concepts, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and metrics into well-defined and effective dimensional data structures.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business and analytics teams on data interpretation, usage, and best practices.
• Clearly articulate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Define and enforce data modelling standards, naming conventions, and design patterns.
• Document data definitions, business rules, and assumptions.
• Support data lineage initiatives, impact analysis, and efforts to ensure enterprise data consistency.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data modelers and analysts.
• Review data models and SQL code developed by others.
• Contribute to and influence architectural and design decisions across the broader data platform.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 8-10 years of progressive experience in data modelling and data warehousing roles.
• Extensive experience in enterprise data warehousing and advanced expertise in Kimball dimensional modelling methodologies.
• Proven experience designing and implementing dimensional models that have been used at scale across multiple business domains.
• Advanced SQL skills with a strong focus on Amazon Redshift and other data/analytic platforms.
• Demonstrated experience optimizing queries for performance in columnar data warehouses.
• Strong data profiling and validation skills.
• Solid understanding of ELT/ETL processes and data pipelines.
• Proven ability to run effective data modelling and requirements gathering workshops.
• Experience working closely with data knowledge workers, business analysts, and decision-makers.
• Ability to constructively challenge requirements and propose improved modelling approaches.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience within the Telecommunications or Banking industries.
• Familiarity or experience with AWS data services such as S3, Glue, and Athena.
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools and semantic layer concepts.
• Exposure to data governance, metadata management, or data catalogue tools.
• Experience working in Agile or product-oriented data teams.
