Job summary

iqbusiness seeks a Senior Data Engineer on a 12-month contract to design, build and operate scalable data pipelines and cloud-native platforms from our Welgemoed offices in Cape Town. The role is hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 days WFH) and focuses on Snowflake, dbt and data governance to support analytics and data science teams.

You will collaborate across stakeholders to deliver robust data solutions, automate deployments, and ensure data quality and observability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a data engineer or similar role.
• Strong Snowflake architecture, design and administration experience.
• Solid dbt modelling and governance skills.
• Cloud experience in Azure, AWS, or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines.
• Architect Snowflake environments, security frameworks and governance.
• Develop and maintain dbt models with testing and documentation.
• Build continuous ingestion pipelines using Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks.
• Implement AI-driven ingestion pipelines to process unstructured data.
• Automate deployments and workflows with Git-based processes.
• Ensure data quality, reliability and observability across transformations.

You will play a key role in enabling analytics and data science teams by designing robust Snowflake architecture, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and well-modelled data while leveraging dbt for transformation, automation, and governance.
