Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Honors preferred).
Technical Skills
- SQL: Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex queries (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Power BI & Data Visualization: Advanced skills, including DAX, Power Query, custom visuals, and report automation.
- Python (R is a plus): Data manipulation, machine learning, and automation expertise.
Experience & Soft Skills
- Over 5 years in data analytics/science or business intelligence within supply chain environments.
- Experience with large datasets from ERP, WMS, TMS, FMS systems.
- Skills: Effective communication, attention to detail, results orientation, innovation, time management, analytical thinking.
Additional Skills & Advantages
- Understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, and operational systems like WMS, TMS, FMS.
- Supply chain certifications (e.g., APICS) or industry experience preferred.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google, Snowflake) is advantageous.
Role Purpose
The Senior Data Scientist/Analyst will work under the Planning & Transport Operations Manager in Johannesburg, focusing on inventory optimization, warehouse and transport planning, and operational analysis to improve client service and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Data analysis and modeling of supply chain data to uncover trends and efficiencies.
- Developing machine learning models for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
- Creating dashboards and reports for real-time operational insights.
- Identifying bottlenecks and proposing data-driven solutions.
- Ensuring data quality and collaborating on data governance.
- Working with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into analytical solutions.
- Developing automated data pipelines and tools.
- Supporting resource planning through demand forecasting.
- Staying updated on industry trends and technologies.
- Communicating insights effectively to stakeholders.
