Job description

As the Senior Customs Entry Clerk you will be responsible for all customs clearance documentation level within a dynamic clearing and forwarding environment. This is a pivotal role requiring meticulous attention to detail and an in-depth understanding of customs regulations and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Capturing of all customs declarations.
  • Submit query documents to customs.
  • Calculate Duty and VAT accurately.
  • Prepare and process Voucher of Correction.
  • Handle all types of customs stops and examinations, including NRCS and SAPS inspections.
  • Manage Rebate Store operations and update the tariff book and explanatory notes.
  • Assist with tariff classification when needed.
  • Process provisional payments and liquidations.
  • Prepare and submit acquittal documents to customs.
  • Reconcile creditor invoices for payment.
  • Submit DA185 applications for importers and exporters.
  • Handle customs refund claims and manage destruction of cargo.
  • Capture EFT requisitions and manage deferment accounts with SARS.
  • Address queries from clients and third parties professionally.
  • Apply for import permits and liaise with shipping lines, importers, customs, and other government agencies.
  • Exhibit flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends, as needed.

Requirements (Experience and Qualifications):

  • Matric (Grade 12) is essential.
  • Qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport, or a Customs Clearance Certificate.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as an Entry Clerk.
  • Advanced knowledge of import activities, legal and ethical requirements in the shipping, clearing, and forwarding industry.
  • Extensive experience in Customs Clearing (Part 1 & 2).
  • Strong liaison skills with government departments, shipping lines, depots, freight forwarders, and transporters.
  • Proficiency in handling various customs declarations and processes, including duty and VAT calculations and reconciliation.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when required.
