Role Purpose:
The Senior Courier Manager plays a key leadership role within the courier operations team, acting as the second-in-command (2IC) to the National Courier Manager. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operational excellence of regional courier functions, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery services. The Senior Courier Manager also supports strategic planning, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the national courier network.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee regional courier managers and their teams to ensure effective delivery operations nationwide.
- Ensure alignment of regional operations with national standards and KPIs (delivery timelines, customer satisfaction, cost efficiency).
- Act as the escalation point for complex operational issues.
Support to National Courier Manager:
- Act as deputy and provide leadership cover in the absence of the National Courier Manager.
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of national courier strategies and initiatives.
- Assist in budget planning and performance reporting.
People Management & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop regional courier managers and supervisory staff.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for courier teams.
- Promote a strong performance and safety culture across all courier operations.
Process & Compliance Oversight:
- Monitor adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive operational efficiency through process standardization and automation where possible.
- Ensure vehicle fleet maintenance, route optimization, and courier compliance with all operational protocols.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement opportunities for improving delivery performance and cost control.
- Work with cross-functional teams to integrate technology and streamline logistics operations.
- Analyse performance metrics to make data-driven decisions.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or courier operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams across multiple regions or branches.
- Strong understanding of delivery logistics, fleet management, and customer service dynamics.
- Proven ability to manage performance through KPIs and continuous improvement methods (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma is a plus).
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution skills.
- Competency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or related field.
- Experience in fast-paced, high-volume courier or transport environment.
- Exposure to national-level strategic planning and implementation.
