Job Summary
As a Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will lead the Control and Instrumentation aspects on several turnkey projects across the African continent. You will provide control-specific insights during the conceptual stage to facilitate accurate budgeting and project planning. Additionally, you will assess existing processing plants and software to offer clients effective automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical consulting services to customers.
- Develop and integrate engineering solutions/designs for project execution at various stages of the project lifecycle.
- Experience with:
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, including programming.
- Development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and preliminary Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
- Preparation of construction documents (drawings and specifications) for water systems.
- Construction management or field engineering for water systems.
- Design and layout of plant control systems.
- Resolving on-site problems proactively.
- Staying updated on instrumentation, control, telecommunication, and security equipment (hardware and software) to serve as the company's expert and recommend the best technologies to clients.
Knowledge
- Operation of pumping equipment, dosing pumps, and large pumping units.
- Water purification and treatment processes.
- Standard abbreviations and international symbols.
- Control and Instrumentation standards (both national and international).
- Design compliance standards.
- Pumping system design and operation.
- Project management principles.
- Society of Automation (ISA) standards and their application.
Qualifications and Experience / Minimum Requirements
- B.Sc. or B.Eng in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA or recognized body.
- Minimum 15 years of experience, including extensive design and construction of water infrastructure.
- At least 5 years post-registration experience.
- Proven leadership and management experience within a consulting environment.
- ISO compliance and quality management experience.
- Team management skills.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and standards, including Employee Equity Act, Labour laws, OHS Act, and design standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, civil and water design software, CAD, Fluid design software, WireShark, Ladder Logic, and HMI configuration.
- Willingness to undertake site visits across provinces and continents.
- Valid driver’s license.
