Placements24 is seeking a Senior Concept Artist for our client in Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA. The role requires translating descriptions into detailed visuals for characters, creatures, environments and vehicles, with mentorship for junior artists.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio and at least seven years’ experience in concept art, with expert Photoshop/Corel Painter skills and a solid art foundation. This on-site position offers collaboration with a talented team on high-profile projects.

Qualifications

• Portfolio of concept art for film, games or animation.
• Minimum 7 years of professional concept art experience.
• Strong skills in digital painting using Photoshop or similar tools.
• Solid drawing fundamentals in anatomy, perspective and color.
• Ability to mentor junior artists is a plus.
• Degree in Illustration, Fine Arts or related field preferred.

You will be responsible for translating written descriptions and abstract ideas into detailed visual concepts, including character designs, creature designs, environments, props, and vehicles. Key Responsibilities

• Create high-quality concept art for characters, creatures, environments, props, and vehicles based on project briefs.
• Develop a wide range of visual styles and aesthetics to meet diverse project needs.
• Collaborate closely with directors, art directors, and other creative team members to refine concepts.
• Produce polished illustrations, sketches, and mood boards to effectively communicate ideas.
• Research and gather visual references to inform the design process.
• Contribute to the overall visual development and world-building of projects.
• Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to junior concept artists.
• Maintain an understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies in concept art.
• Ensure designs are technically feasible for subsequent production phases (e.g., 3D modeling, animation).
• Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Requirements

• A strong and diverse portfolio showcasing exceptional concept art for film, games, or animation.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience as a Concept Artist.
• Expert proficiency in digital painting software such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, or similar.
• Strong foundation in drawing, anatomy, perspective, color theory, and composition.
• Ability to work with a variety of art styles and adapt to specific project requirements.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Passion for visual storytelling and creating believable worlds.
• Experience in mentoring junior artists is a plus.
