Job summary

Placements24 on behalf of a renowned neuroscience institute seeks a Senior Neuroscientist for a fully remote role focused on cognitive neuroscience research. Although nominally based in Bloemfontein, this remote-first position supports global collaboration to study neural substrates of cognition, perception, and decision-making.

You design and run studies, work with neuroimaging and modeling tools, publish findings, mentor researchers, and contribute to grant applications.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral research experience with a strong focus on cognitive neuroscience.
• Proven expertise in designing and conducting human cognitive neuroscience research.
• Extensive experience with neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG/MEG) and associated data analysis software (e.g., SPM, FSL, EEGLAB).
• Strong skills in statistical analysis and programming (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
• Experience with computational modeling of cognitive processes is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated track record of high-quality publications and conference presentations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain productivity in a remote environment.
• Strong collaborative skills and experience working within research teams.
• Familiarity with ethical review board processes and human subject research protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and manage advanced research projects investigating cognitive neuroscience.
• Utilize cutting-edge methodologies, including neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG), computational modeling, and behavioral analysis.
• Analyze complex neurophysiological and behavioral data, drawing rigorous scientific conclusions.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, psychologists, and data analysts.
• Author high-impact publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the training of students or interns.
• Contribute to grant writing and securing funding for new research initiatives.
• Stay informed about the latest advancements and theoretical frameworks in cognitive neuroscience.
• Develop and implement novel analytical techniques for neuroscience data.
• Ensure ethical conduct of research and compliance with all relevant guidelines.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and data archiving effectively.
