Placements24 is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for an established engineering firm in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will lead design, project lifecycles, and coordination with clients and authorities to deliver robust road networks and stormwater solutions.

The role emphasizes geometric road design, traffic engineering, hydraulic analysis, and mentorship of junior engineers, with a hybrid work setup and a focus on compliant, sustainable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and ECSA registration with PrEng/EIT path.
• At least 7 years of civil engineering experience with roads and stormwater.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Civil Designer; other road design tools.
• Strong knowledge of SANS standards for roads and traffic engineering.
• Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS or SWMM is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of road infrastructure projects including new roads and upgrades.
• Plan and design stormwater management systems including culverts and detention ponds.
• Perform geometric design, traffic analysis, and pavement design.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling for drainage to mitigate floods.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, cost estimates and tender docs.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources.
• Liaise with clients, authorities, contractors and stakeholders.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

About the Role

Our client, a well-established engineering firm specializing in municipal and infrastructure projects, is seeking a dedicated Senior Civil Engineer to join their team in Kimberley, Northern Cape . This role is crucial for the planning, design, and implementation of vital road networks and stormwater management systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in geometric road design, traffic engineering principles, and hydraulic analysis for drainage systems. You will be responsible for leading project teams, managing project lifecycles, liaising with clients and local authorities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, sustainable infrastructure solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of road infrastructure projects, including new roads, intersections, and upgrades.


• Plan and design effective stormwater management systems, including culverts, channels, and detention/retention ponds.


• Perform geometric design, traffic analysis, and pavement design for road projects.


• Conduct hydraulic modeling and analysis for drainage systems to ensure flood mitigation.


• Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents.


• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring efficient project delivery.


• Liaise with clients, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.


• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior civil engineers and technicians.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and local municipal requirements.


• Conduct site investigations and construction supervision as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.


• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with a clear path to PrEng.


• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on roads and stormwater design.


• Proficiency in relevant civil engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, or similar for road and drainage design.


• Solid understanding of traffic engineering principles and SANS standards for roads.


• Experience with hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM) is highly desirable.


• Strong project management and client liaison skills.
