Placements24 seeks a Senior Research & Development Engineer specialized in catalysis in Sandton, Gauteng. You will lead catalyst design, synthesis, and process development for industrial applications, coordinating with chemists, materials scientists, and process engineers in a hybrid work setting.

Responsibilities include designing experiments, scaling catalytic processes, analyzing data, and mentoring junior staff, with a strong emphasis on safety and innovation in chemical engineering.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with a strong focus on catalysis.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in research and development, with a significant portion in catalysis.
• Proven track record in catalyst design, synthesis, and evaluation, plus process development involving catalysis.
• In-depth understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and reactor design for catalytic systems.
• Experience with characterization techniques for catalysts (e.g., BET, XRD, TEM, spectroscopy).

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D projects focused on design, synthesis, characterization, and application of novel catalysts.
• Develop and optimize catalytic processes for chemical transformations with emphasis on efficiency and sustainability.
• Design and conduct lab experiments, pilot studies, and scale-up trials for catalytic processes.
• Analyze data, interpret results, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with chemists, materials scientists, and process engineers.
• Author technical reports, research papers, patent applications, and proposals.
• Stay current with catalysis advancements and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
• Mentor junior engineers and manage research resources and budgets for Sandton-based projects.
