Main purpose of positionCurrently we are looking for aSenior Business DeveloperC&Iin Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision –Improving our future.As our Senior Business Developer C&I,you will be responsible for securing and structuring Renewable Energy Transactions in the private sector from early opportunity through the development cycle to financial close. Your ability to structure and negotiate complex transactions, to lead external and internal commercial and development processes, and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams is key to successfully lead the project to construction start. Commercial and Industrial (C&I) in this context relates to utility scale projects and demand, commonly greater than 50 MW.

Main responsibilities

  • Undertake market reviews, analyze and keep abreast of the competitive landscape, regulation and policies for utility-scale renewable energy projects in the C&I space
  • Support the development of the C&I strategy and planning
  • Identify and contact customers, develop and manage strategic partnerships
  • Lead the Negotiations with private offtakers, traders, aggregators, co-sponsors
  • Build a solid business case in line with the company’s guidelines
  • Support and Lead the Process to secure equity and debt finance for projects until financial close
  • Lead Negotiations with development partners
  • Plan and coordinate with the internal and external project development activities including securing land rights, obtainingrequired local permits and approvals, securing interconnection rights from utilitiesnegotiating PPAs with utilities, establishing EPC and O&M agreements
  • Lead the bidding processes in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from private off-takers
  • Be a credible counterpart to private off-takers during the procurement and implementation process
  • Manage project teams, often numbering 10-20 individuals, including internal resources, consultants, and development subcontractors
  • Ensure compliance with integrity standards and operating system procedures

Qualifications and competencies

  • Business, Legal, or Technical university level degree
  • 7-10 years professional experience in private sector client-facing
  • Experience with closing complex transactions, deal structuring and project finance in the private sector
  • Experience in Business-to-Business Sales and/or transactions
  • Understanding of power markets and in particular renewable energy
  • Working knowledge and understanding of power purchase agreements, wheeling and interconnection agreements, trading and aggregation
  • Strong knowledge of business fundamentals and financial analysis
  • Project Management skills
  • Storytelling and presentation skills
  • Experience with permitting of renewable energy projects preferrable but not strictly requiredLanguage: fluent both written and spoken in English, second language is a plus
  • General Project Finance, Tender Management and Legal Competency
