Job summary

University of Fort Hare is seeking an experienced Building Services Mechanical Engineer (Fire) in Cape Town. You will lead fire engineering design across building services projects, from concept through implementation, coordinating with clients, architects and contractors to deliver compliant, high-quality solutions.

The role requires around 10 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and registration with ECSA would be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level degree in mechanical engineering with focus on building services/fire engineering
• Approximately 10 years of experience in fire engineering within building services/consulting engineering
• Strong understanding of fire engineering principles and building services

Responsibilities

• Design fire protection and fire safety systems for building services projects
• Develop practical fire engineering solutions complying with applicable standards
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, specs and design documentation
• Manage fire engineering aspects from concept to completion
• Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors and consultants
• Oversee multidisciplinary building services projects and integrate fire requirements
• Review designs and technical docs for quality, compliance and functionality
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical input during implementation
• Monitor project progress and deliverables, maintaining technical quality
• Provide professional technical advice to project teams and clients
