Qualifications

Responsibilities

BUILDING SERVICES MECHANICAL ENGINEER (FIRE)

Cape Town: My client, a well-established consulting engineering firm specialising in building services, is seeking an experienced Building Services Mechanical Engineer (Fire) with approximately 10 years of experience in Fire Engineering to join their team.

Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional Fire Engineering services across building services projects, from design and technical development through to project implementation. This is a specialist role suited to an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in Fire Engineering and consulting within the building services environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and engineering fire protection and fire safety systems for building services projects
• Developing practical and technically sound fire engineering solutions in accordance with applicable standards and regulations
• Preparing technical reports, specifications, calculations and design documentation
• Managing Fire Engineering aspects of projects from concept through to completion
• Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and other professional consultants
• Coordinating Fire Engineering requirements within multidisciplinary building services projects
• Reviewing designs and technical documentation to ensure quality, compliance and functionality
• Conducting site inspections and providing technical input and support during project implementation
• Monitoring project progress, deliverables and technical quality
• Providing professional technical advice to clients and project teams

Candidate Criteria

• Qualification: BSc/BEng or BTech in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience: Approximately 10 years of relevant experience as a Fire Engineer within the Building Services / Consulting Engineering environment
• Strong understanding of Fire Engineering principles and building services
• Proven experience in the design and delivery of Fire Engineering projects
• Experience working on multidisciplinary building services projects
• Professional registration with ECSA would be advantageous
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good project management and organisational abilities
• High level of computer literacy and proficiency in relevant engineering software
