Job description

To ensure accurate import- and export documentation preparation for goods shipped and to verify correct customs brokerage activities. Also to ensure proper procedures are followed as per the Savino set procedures and policies while maintaining our core values (Teamwork, Integrity, Innovation, Trust, Respect and Quality) and culture. Continuous industry training to remain abreast of industry changes and customs requirements.

Key Performance Areas

Customs procedures and Customs Legislation

• Coordinate, monitor and frame all types of bills of entry
• Expert knowledge of legislation and policies to ensure declarations are accurately processed up to receiving the final release
• Ensure the correct rebate items have been declared for specific clients and or headings
• Ensure the correct permits have been declared for their specific tariff headings, commodities and brand per client
• Ensure the correct Customs Procedure Codes have been utilised at time of clearance
• Must be able to perform all manual calculations
• Ability to resolve all Customs and OGA-related stops and queries
• Ability to process refund- and drawback claims
• Processing acquittals as per policy
• No refunds, write-offs or penalties due to errors
• Familiar with tariff headings and able to classify items
• Must prioritise time outside of office hours for further studies and exams for an extended period.

DTI policies and requirements

• Understand permits, know how to apply for permits, be familiar with documentation required for the application and ability to apply knowledge to the use and application of various permits.

Communication and interaction

• Clearly communicate with brokers, team leader/s and manager/s to ensure all work-related tasks are completed accurately and in time
• Communicate and interact with SARS and OGA's, resolving all stops and queries as per the relevant processes.
• Liaise with internal and external customers.

Quality checks

• Do thorough quality checks on all types of entries to verify the correctness of processed declarations.

Shipshape

• Frame all types of entries on Shipshape.
• Reasonable and lawful as required from time to time by seniors and managers
• Overtime work required at times
• Participate in organisational processes

Qualifications Required

• Matric - Maths could be an advantage
• Tertiary qualification within the logistics environment
• SDS training or equivalent industry training
