Job description

An engineering company based in Cape Town operating in thewater & wastewater industry is recruiting a Senior Bookkeeper. This is a permanent position that will be based at the central office in Kraaifontein Industria.

  • Reporting to: Finance Manager
  • Job Level: Middle Management
  • Area: On-site

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recording financial transactions
  • Update and maintain financial records
  • Ensure that records are accurate and comply with legal requirements.
  • Ensuring the monthly payroll is processed accurately & timeously.

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Proficient with SAGE accounting & payroll software
  • MS Office (word, excel and outlook)
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organisations
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulatory requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Finance:

  • Maintain accurate trail balance including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledgers
  • Processing of invoices, journal entries, ledger transactions and bank reconciliations
  • Review transaction allocations to ensure correct allocation and VAT treatment
  • Manage and maintain the fixed asset register
  • Assist with financial audits, projects and related activities as required

Payroll:

  • Process monthly payroll for approximately 70 employees
  • Compiling payroll reports
  • Ensure payroll information is submitted by relevant due dates
  • Compiling yearly pay date calendar

Staff Management:

  • Training and coaching staff members
  • Approve time off leave request
  • Support employees to achieve departmental objectives
  • Market related
