Job description

Main Purpose: To provide boiler engineering consulting services and technical expertise to the proposals, engineering, manufacturing, projects, quality control, assurance departments and client operations and outages departments in terms of the development, operations, maintenance, outage planning and design preparation for all pressure parts in the boiler island of coal fired boilers.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Ensure and provide that the highest standards and quality are achievable for boiler pressure parts designs, boiler operations, maintenance and outages execution activities.
  • Ensure compliance to all legislative, regulatory, company and customer requirements.
  • Advance and implement knowledge of local and international best equipment, materials, information, practices and processes.
  • Analyse engineering designs for boiler pressure parts.
  • Plan, conduct, track and report boiler engineering investigations.
  • Review subcontractor procedures, processes and documentation in order to determine that applicable code and design requirements are satisfied.
  • Oversee, provide input and coordination for outage planning, scope of work development, RCFA and preventative maintenance strategies to ensure optimised boiler outages for long term boiler health.
  • Ensure that stakeholders are qualified in accordance with standards and contract specifications and obtain approval of the Client appointed Inspection Authority or third parties.
  • Develop and update procedures as per contract and standards requirements to ensure client acceptance and satisfaction.
  • Ensure the approval of procedures and data sheets by the Client appointed Inspection Authorities prior to commencement of work.
  • Provide technical support with industry standards and specifications such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS, API, CSA, ISO, DIN, TRD, BS and EN.
  • Coordinate failure analysis and root cause analysis on welding and heat treatment related matters.
  • Study engineering drawings to determine optimal procedural requirements for maintenance and replacement of components.
  • Review daily and monthly performance reports and identifies deficiencies in plant operations.
  • Compilation and implementation of repair procedures.
  • Enforce and maintain all legislative requirements related to boiler design and operation activities.
  • Review materials in the material purchasing specifications and storage and handling of parent materials.
  • Fulfil all job specific requirements and to perform all tasks set out under these job specific requirements.
  • Any other job related duties as required from time to time.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Eng./B.Sc. Hons. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Preference for M.Sc./M.Eng. in Engineering.
  • Must be Professional Registered with ESCA as a Pr. Eng.
  • Project Management qualification would be advantageous.
  • 5 - 10 Years’ boiler engineering experience in high pressure steam boiler erection, petrochemical industry, piping and/or a heavy engineering, multi-disciplinary team, project management and environment and in Boiler Plant operations, maintenance, outages and design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical and structural components as it relates to boiler engineering assessments and recommendations.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of boiler plant operations, maintenance and outage planning and coordination.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of Boiler codes such as the ASME codes, EN standards, FFFR, NACE and NBIC.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality systems.
  • Computer literate (MS Office).
