Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for its East London, Eastern Cape team. The role offers a hybrid work model, combining remote work with office collaboration to design, build, and deploy robust backend systems powering global applications.

You will work across services and APIs, leveraging languages like Python/Java/Go/Node.js, and modern databases with cloud platforms such as AWS/Azure/GCP. Strong collaboration and problem-solving are essential to succeed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in at least one major backend programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Strong understanding of database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and RESTful API design.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and practices is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend services and APIs using modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers, to define and deliver new features.
