About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding fintech company based in Rustenburg, North West , is searching for a Senior Backend Engineer specializing in Node.js. This critical role involves designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure backend systems that power their innovative financial platforms. You will be instrumental in architecting new services, optimizing existing ones, and ensuring the high availability and performance of our core infrastructure. Working within a dedicated and agile team in North West , you will contribute significantly to the technical direction and success of the company. We are looking for a seasoned engineer who possesses a deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and data management, and who is passionate about building reliable and efficient backend solutions. This position requires on-site presence in Rustenburg .

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy high-quality backend services using Node.js and associated frameworks (e.g., Express.js, NestJS).
• Architect and implement scalable microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Optimize application performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and ensure high availability.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Manage and interact with various database systems, including SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
• Implement and maintain robust security measures and data protection strategies.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend development experience with a strong focus on Node.js.
• Proficiency in designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Extensive experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
