This pivotal role involves the design, development, testing, and integration of sophisticated avionics systems for next-generation aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Senior Avionics Engineer will be responsible for defining system architecture, selecting components, developing software, and conducting rigorous testing and validation. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop avionics systems, including navigation, communication, flight control, and sensor integration.
• Define system requirements, specifications, and architectures.
• Select appropriate hardware and software components for avionics systems.
• Develop and test embedded software for avionics applications.
• Perform system integration, verification, and validation activities.
• Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting of avionics systems.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, and MIL-STD.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineers.
• Mentor and guide junior avionics engineers.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in avionics.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in avionics systems design and development.
• Proven expertise in one or more avionics domains (e.g., flight management systems, communication systems, navigation systems, autopilot systems).
• Strong understanding of digital signal processing, embedded systems, and real-time operating systems.
• Experience with avionics communication protocols (e.g., ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, AFDX).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and experience with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
• Knowledge of aerospace certification processes and standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Strong technical writing and presentation abilities.
• Must be willing to work on-site in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA .
