Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a senior Aviation Safety Officer in Durban to enhance safety protocols across our aviation facilities. This hybrid role combines on-site assessments with remote analysis to ensure compliance with ICAO SARPs, EASA, and local regulations, and to develop, implement, and monitor SMS across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive aviation safety management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of ICAO SARPs, EASA and local regulations.
• Proven experience developing and implementing SMS.
• Strong analytical, reporting and presentation skills.
• SMS training certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's SMS.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Aviation Safety Officer to enhance safety protocols at their Durban -based aviation facilities. This hybrid role involves a combination of on-site assessments and remote analysis to ensure compliance with national and international aviation safety standards. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety management systems (SMS), conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying potential hazards and implementing effective mitigation strategies to maintain the highest levels of safety in all aviation operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's Safety Management System (SMS).
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of operational areas and procedures.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver aviation safety training programs to employees at all levels.
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure organizational compliance with all relevant aviation safety legislation.
• Analyze safety data and produce reports to inform management decisions and improve safety performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in aviation safety management.
• In-depth knowledge of ICAO SARPs, EASA, and local aviation regulations.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing Safety Management Systems.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and presentation skills.
• Certification in aviation safety (e.g., recognized SMS training) is highly desirable.
