Job summary

Placements24 in Upington, Northern Cape seeks an Automation & Control Systems Engineer to design, implement and support advanced PLC, HMI and SCADA solutions for mining and agricultural clients. Travel to client sites within the Northern Cape is expected.

You will optimise industrial processes, interpret control requirements, and document designs while adhering to safety standards. A Bachelor's in Electrical or Mechatronics and 5+ years in industrial automation are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering.
Proficiency in programming various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi) and HMI/SCADA software (e.g., WinCC, FactoryTalk View, Ignition).
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
Experience with process instrumentation and control loops.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Willingness to travel to client sites within the Northern Cape and surrounding areas as needed.
Experience in the mining or agricultural sectors is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

Design, program, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for various industrial applications.
Develop and implement robust control strategies to optimize process performance and efficiency.
Integrate various control system components, including sensors, actuators, and communication networks.
Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for control system issues.
Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define system requirements and design specifications.
Provide technical support and training to clients and end-users.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in automation technology and recommend improvements.
Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to safety standards and project requirements in Upington.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, programming code, and user manuals.
Participate in site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
