Job summary

A leading company in South Africa is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to oversee construction quality and safety for infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Civil Engineering, extensive experience in managing structural works, particularly bridges, and be registered with ECSA. This site-specific role offers an opportunity to contribute to significant engineering projects while ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in the construction monitoring of structural work.
  • Must be a Candidate Engineer, Candidate Technologist, or Candidate Technician with ECSA.
  • Experience with COTO (COLTO) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Construction Works per Project Specifications and COTO.
  • Conduct Site Safety Audits and maintain daily site diary.
  • Prepare Budgets, Cashflows, and Contract Reports.

Job description

This position is site spesific for the duration of the project.

The following:

Formal Education:

  • Degree or National Diploma in Civil Engineering

Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in the construction monitoring of structural work with specific experience in bridge structures

Registration:

  • Candidate Engineer, Candidate Technologist or Candidate Technician with the Engineering Council of SA (ECSA)
  • Experience with COTO (COLTO)

will enable you to do the following duties:

  • Monitoring of the Construction Works in accordance with the Project Specifications, COTO and FIDIC;
  • Auditing Site safety measures: Supervisory staff and Contractor;
  • Attend to Site and Technical meetings and preparing minutes;
  • Maintenance of daily site diary;
  • Monitor and assess survey data;
  • Monitor and assess all test results and attend to other quality control matters;
  • Measurement of quantities and verification of the Contractor’s monthly payment certificates;
  • Monitor, assess and inspect structural works;
  • Preparing budgets and cashflows;
  • Preparing Works Authorisations;
  • Programme and expenditure control;
  • Attend and minute work schedule meetings with Contractor;
  • Preparing of site instructions and site memorandums;
  • Assist with the preparation and compilation of the Contract Report;
  • Any other reasonable request.
