Job description

Applications are invited for a Senior Area Manager to be based in Queenstown.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Senior Area Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fibre and wireless project health, driving customer satisfaction and retention, and collaborating with Networks teams to ensure effective operations within your assigned area. This includes managing customer relationships, project planning and execution, and fostering strong community connections. The role also involves maximizing project take-up and increasing revenue.

Key Responsibility Areas

Area:

  • Ensure that we remain relevant to the customers in the area assigned by implementing and participating in the standard competitive commercial tactics.
  • Use social media, community initiatives, activations, and community engagements to stay relevant to the customers in the area.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and effectively to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Be the custodian of every customer in your network in your Area.

Management:

  • Convert Business and Tactical Goals for your area into monthly Operational plans.
  • Be part of the Level-2 Value Chain MOS collaboration to ensure that value chain flow problems are identified and solved.
  • Manage your operational team by ensuring that:
    • Daily execution plans are shared and executed.
    • All resources needed are available to the team, like tools, equipment, vehicles, safety measures, and protocols.
    • Each individual team member has activity lists each day and knows what is expected in terms of speed, quality, cost, and safety in executing the activities.
    • Measure the execution of activities via KPI’s (SQSCT) as well as via QC protocols. Put feedback loops in place to ensure daily problem solving and improvement.
    • Reporting on KPI’s, metrics, and statistics.
  • Implement and uphold partnership agreements with customer and/or supplier teams.
  • Coach and train team members to execute activities as expected.
  • Ensure all aspects of outbound sales, social media, local marketing, office administration, and customer care are attended to by the commercial team in the area.
  • Facilitate the daily Level-1 MOS meeting and ensure triggers are identified and solved.
  • Identify and capitalize on every commercial opportunity to achieve commercial goals.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to engage and build long-term relationships with landowners and manage contracts.

Leadership:

  • Receive tactical leadership from the Commercial & Network Managers. Functional leadership comes from the Commercial Manager in your region.
  • Receive governance and guidance regarding policies, best practices, and standards from the Commercial Manager and the related team of Specialists.
  • Lead and coach your team members to help them improve and to remain aligned to their daily responsibilities and the culture of the business.
  • Ensure you and your team remain aligned with other functions and regions.

Senior Area Management:

  • Oversee and support Junior AM’s to execute their responsibilities in smaller segmentations of the area.

Key Outputs:

  • Develop Operational and daily execution plans for your team and ensure that it aligns with the rest of your value chain.
  • Ensure that all resources needed for your team to operate are available when needed.
  • Manage, train, and coach your teams so they can act effectively.
  • Accurately prioritize key activities and cancel noise.
  • Ensure you collect and analyze the correct data to inform decisions.
  • Lead your MOS collaboration in line with national rhythms.
  • Ensure the business culture is practiced in your team.
  • Report on individual and team performance, as well as on triggers and how they were addressed.
  • Achieve our Commercial goals for the area in your responsibility.
  • Maintain strong relationships with peers, customers, landowners, and the community.

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

Experience:

  • 8 years work experience, of which at least 4 are in a people management position.

Skills and competencies:

  • Ongoing commitment to personal and professional development as well as staying current on industry trends.
  • Commercially minded.
  • Proven track record in sales will be beneficial.
  • Sound operational and time management skills as well as problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to communicate in English and applicable local languages.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • While this is a Commercial position, experience in fibre and wireless networks and landowner management will be advantageous.

  • Able to transfer knowledge and skills to others.
  • Leadership and People Management (plan, organize, lead, and control).
  • Valid driver’s license and travel required.

Education Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in the applicable field will be beneficial.
