Job Purpose: The purpose of this job is to apply technical expertise and judgment in interpreting and presenting complex financial and factual data. This helps identify subjects linked to proceeds of crime, supporting criminal investigations, recovery efforts, prosecutions, and long-term decision making.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Apply diagnosis to identify relationships and causal links among multiple events to formulate hypotheses.
- Perform complex financial analysis, including transaction summaries, flow of funds, asset tracing, and pattern recognition related to money laundering and proceeds of crime.
- Prepare various financial intelligence products based on complex data.
- Serve as a technical reference for financial analysis and provide solutions to complex problems.
- Lead research efforts to gather and interpret information from multiple sources, producing relevant intelligence products with visual aids.
- Recommend resources based on skills and technical ability.
- Plan and manage outputs with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with other agencies to support crime-fighting priorities, ensuring accurate assessments.
- Translate client objectives into value-added services and prepare intelligence briefings.
- Assist in converting intelligence into evidence, including court testimonies and visual demonstrations.
- Advise leadership on financial intelligence issues.
- Support crisis planning and operational activities.
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and seminars.
- Mentor and provide feedback to team members.
- Assist in legal proceedings as an expert witness and prepare visual aids.
Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Relevant degree with at least 6 years of experience.
- Experience in intelligence, policing, law enforcement, law, or accountancy is preferable.
- Proficiency in collecting and analyzing information to form hypotheses.
- Knowledge in financial analysis, law enforcement, forensics, or auditing is preferable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel; experience with data analysis tools.
- Additional qualifications in anti-money laundering, honors, or master's degrees are advantageous.
- Understanding of South African laws, including the Constitution, Criminal Law, and Evidence Act, and legislation on anti-money laundering and terrorism financing.
- Ability to produce clear, corroborated financial intelligence reports following the intelligence cycle.
