Job summary

DVT is seeking a Senior AI Engineer in Johannesburg to design, build, and scale enterprise-grade AI solutions. You will develop AI-powered applications using Python and .NET, create advanced Generative AI systems, and implement RAG architectures with embeddings, semantic search, and vector databases.

You will lead HITL governance, observability, and end-to-end security of production-grade AI. You will influence architecture decisions, work with stakeholders, and advance responsible AI practices

Qualifications

• Strong professional software development experience with Python and .NET.
• Hands-on experience building solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Proven experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), content embeddings, semantic search, and vector databases.
• Experience designing and implementing agentic AI workflows.
• Experience integrating Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) processes into AI applications.
• Strong understanding of AI evaluation, testing, and quality assurance practices.
• Experience implementing observability and monitoring for AI systems.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals and enterprise architecture knowledge.
• Experience delivering production-grade applications in enterprise environments.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior AI Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling intelligent software solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing AI-powered applications using Python and .NET

• Designing and implementing advanced Generative AI solutions

• Building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures that combine LLM capabilities with organisational knowledge

• Working with embeddings, semantic search, and vector databases

• Designing and orchestrating agentic AI workflows capable of complex, long-running tasks

• Implementing Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) capabilities to ensure governance, quality, and operational control

• Developing AI evaluation frameworks to measure performance, accuracy, safety, and business impact

• Establishing observability, monitoring, and diagnostics across AI systems

• Partnering with technical and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure solutions

• Driving engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle

• Contributing to architecture decisions, innovation initiatives, and proof-of-concept development

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong professional software development experience with Python and .NET

• Exposure to MLOps, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native architectures

• Experience working with AI governance, responsible AI, and compliance frameworks

• Knowledge of containerisation technologies and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP

• Experience working within fintech, payments, or other highly regulated industries
