A well-established and forward-thinking trading business is seeking a Senior Agricultural Economist or Analyst to lead market intelligence and support strategic decision-making across the organisation. This role is key to identifying risks, unlocking value, and keeping the business at the forefront of the industry.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Analyse global and local agricultural markets to track supply, demand, and pricing trends
  • Monitor economic and climate indicators that impact commodity cycles and production
  • Assess and interpret risks and opportunities across commodity and financial markets
  • Provide data-driven insights to guide trading and business strategy
Key Responsibilities :
Market Intelligence & Risk Assessment
  • Analyse global and local agricultural markets to track supply, demand, and pricing trends
  • Monitor economic and climate indicators that impact commodity cycles and production
  • Assess and interpret risks and opportunities across commodity and financial markets
  • Provide data-driven insights to guide trading and business strategy
Strategic Forecasting & Planning
  • Develop robust forecasting models to support trading, planning, and investment decisions
  • Advise on potential value chain opportunities – from farm to consumer – including investment prospects in agri-business ventures
  • Integrate macroeconomic and agricultural forecasts to inform strategic decisions under changing global conditions
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Present regular insights and market briefings to senior leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Work closely with traders, executives, and analysts to align economic insights with operational goals
Policy & Regulatory Awareness
  • Stay current with agricultural policies, regulatory changes, and legislative developments
  • Evaluate the impact of local and international regulations on trading activity and recommend risk-mitigation or growth strategies
Minimum Requirements:
  • BCom or higher in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related field
  • 8+ years’ experience in the agricultural and trading environment
  • Proven exposure to commodity markets, especially with international dynamics
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a strong grasp of forecasting, market modelling, and macroeconomic trends
  • Presenting with stakeholder management experience
  • Strong leadership experience
