About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Employee Communications to lead RBM’s internal communications and employee engagement activities in support of RBM's strategic objectives, driven by the mine's senior leadership team (SLT) and other functions including HR, with a strong focus on increasing employee engagement to improve safety, productivity, and partnership outcomes.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing the integrated internal communications and employee engagement plan, which is part of the Communications 5-year strategy.

Reporting and responsibilities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams, removing silos and focusing on behaviors.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships to deliver results for the business.
  • Ensure all activities align with the overall Employee Engagement strategy led by HR.
  • Coordinate with the Group to ensure alignment with Rio Tinto policies and the Partner to Operate approach.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors such as RBM's communications agency, digital, or creative agencies.
  • Maintain and enhance the RBM brand through team performance management and high-profile activities.
  • Stay informed about industry communication and PR standards and incorporate these into planning.
  • Support the Global Minerals Employee Engagement plan in alignment with the global communications team.
About you

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Public Relations.
  • A certificate in DTP (Desktop Publishing) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Digital Marketing is an advantage.
  • A South African driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a communications role with an internal focus.
  • Understanding of the heavy industry is an advantage.
  • Experience in employee communications, creative, and brand work.
  • Understanding of the PtO framework within Employee Communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in isiZulu is essential.
