Job Description

The Old Mutual Legacy and Product Management Team is seeking a suitably qualified individual for a Senior Actuarial Specialist role. The team is responsible for product management and performance for both savings and income closed products in the Old Mutual retail market.

This role offers exposure to a combination of technical and business issues. The successful candidate will be technically sound, able to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders at all levels, and will manage a suite of closed retail products spanning various savings and risk solutions in South Africa, including reversionary bonus policies, universal life products, unit trusts, and other modern investment solutions. These products manage significant assets and serve over half a million customers.

As industry standards and regulations evolve, the candidate must ensure the product suite remains compliant and competitive, navigating complex technical and business challenges. The role requires adaptability, collaboration, and execution skills to work with senior management, product teams, marketing, client service, IT, legal, and compliance departments.

The focus will be on supporting strategic projects, managing smaller projects, and BAU activities, including innovating processes and systems for product administration and onboarding new product ranges. The candidate should be passionate about delivering fair customer outcomes, change management, and driving organizational changes.

Role Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Actuarial student with a minimum of 10 credits and at least 2 years of actuarial experience (Senior Actuarial student / Actuarial student progressing well / Nearly qualified actuary with substantial experience).
• Product experience is advantageous.
• Self-starter with initiative, capable of driving projects with minimal guidance.
• Analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple deliverables simultaneously.

The appointment may be at a lower role size depending on exam progress and experience. Preference will be given to candidates aligned with Old Mutual South Africa's Employment Equity Plan.
