Qualifications

Job description

As an established international services company, we are looking for a Senior Accountant to lead the existing finance team in Benoni and to support the company and its management with all financial, compliance, and reporting aspects of the business in Southern Africa.

Working in a busy and deadline-driven finance environment, the candidate will ensure the efficient functioning of the finance team, accurate and timely reporting to the group head office according to the company finance manual, recognized accounting standards, and legislation in South Africa.

The role is hands-on with the expectation that the candidate will be involved and able to support every member and function of the finance team.

The candidate will serve as a valuable link between finance and operations in Southern Africa.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Full accounting function on supervisory, support, and hands-on levels
  2. Ensure compliance with statutory and tax legislation in South Africa
  3. Supervise and lead the South African finance team
  4. Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting analyses of the Balance Sheet
  5. Prepare monthly Profit and Loss Statement with detailed costing and gross margin reporting
  6. Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasting
  7. Analyze results against budget, forecasts, and KPIs and summarize financial status
  8. Monthly and periodic reporting to group head office according to strict deadlines
  9. Prepare, reconcile, and file timeously monthly PAYE / UIF / SDL returns
  10. Prepare, reconcile, and file timeously monthly VAT returns
  11. Prepare, reconcile, and file timeously annual OID returns
  12. Assist and prepare the monthly payroll
  13. Manage employee fringe benefits program and liaise with financial broker
  14. Liaise with external HR consultant on skills, equity, and B-BBEE reporting and compliance
  15. Manage insurance policies and fixed asset register
  16. Liaise with external financial auditor for audit, tax, statutory, and secretarial matters
  17. Manage annual financial audit process
  18. Treasury and cash flow forecasting
  19. Vendor payments and manage service provider contracts
  20. Continuous interaction with operational departments to understand activities in real time
  21. Support client contracting and review of offers and quotes to customers
  22. Ensure client contracting reflects budgeted assumptions and complete costing of services
  23. Foster and develop adherence to internal controls
  24. Manage external stakeholder relationships with customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, employees, SARS, and other governmental departments
  25. Support Managing Director and Regional Financial Controller in matters relating to business in Southern Africa.
Desired Qualification, Experience, and Skills:
  1. B Compt or B Com degree in accounting a minimum
  2. Completed articles or relevant certification (e.g., CMA or CPA) an advantage
  3. Qualified Payroll Administrator an advantage
  4. Proven experience as Senior Accountant or Accounting Supervisor in a corporate environment with people management skills (minimum 3 years)
  5. Proven experience of full accounting function from source document to audit pack (minimum 7 years)
  6. Strong computer literacy – MS Office and advanced MS Excel skills
  7. Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, i.e., like Sage Accounting and with Payroll software
  8. In-depth understanding and working experience of GAAP principles, statutory, and tax legislation in South Africa
