Financial Control and Accounting (FCA) is the accounting department within the Volvo Group, responsible for financial compliance in terms of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as compliance with local legislation.

The main Purpose of the Job

We are looking for an experienced and passionate person with particular interest in financial processes and continuous improvement wanting to join our Financial Control & Accounting Team (South EMEA) within the Volvo Group.

Within FCA South EMEA you will be part of a global and diverse team of skilled and high-performing professionals who work with energy, passion and respect towards each other to become the world leader in sustainable transport solutions.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to temporarily backfill the role of Senior Accountant. This position is critical as a Senior Accountant will be fully dedicated to a significant project. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Senior Accountant's duties during this period.

The Senior Accountant is the functional leader for a team of 4 people, together you ensure and execute reporting to the Volvo Group according to IFRS and are responsible for the local accounting and financial compliance for the legal entity VGSA.

The Project Senior Accountant reports to the Chief Accountant South Africa.

The position is temporary for a period of two (2) years.

Job Objectives

  • Manage and support a team of financial accountants.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Overall responsible for the monthly reporting to the Volvo Group.
  • Support stakeholders across the organisation through the entire closing process and accounting inquiries.
  • Coordinate and facilitate external audits for the legal entity.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, IFRS and financial policies and procedures (FPP).
  • Drive daily control and monitor all relevant accounting processes and recommend performance improvements, where needed.
  • Monthly report financial performance to the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of FCA.
  • Continuously monitor movements in high-risk financial statement items.
  • Timeously approve and review all balance sheet reconciliations (BSR).
  • Any other duties reasonably assigned by your manager.

Qualifications & Job Experience

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA).
  • 4+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience presenting and explaining complex information to stakeholders.
  • Experience managing a team of accountants.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively in English (verbal and written format).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Proficient in financial software (SAP) and Microsoft.
  • An analytical and driven individual with high integrity, known for a structured and well-organized approach to work.
  • You possess a solution-oriented mindset, handling various matters logically and systematically.
  • Demonstrate a can-do attitude and are not afraid to act and take initiative.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Identify key control points within processes and ensure adherence to mitigate financial reporting risks.
  • Strong ethical compass and not afraid to speak up.
