Job description

Join a global leader in the manufacturing sector as a Senior Financial Accountant. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the financial integrity, costing, compliance, and reporting processes of the South African operations. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will collaborate closely with operations and commercial teams, supporting both strategic and transactional accounting functions.

Key Purpose of the Role

As a Senior Accountant, your responsibilities include supporting all accounting and financial reporting functions for the South African entity. You will maintain the integrity of financial systems and controls, oversee costing processes, participate in budgeting and forecasting, and ensure compliance with financial policies. Additionally, you will assist in audits and month-end closings, while upholding strong financial discipline within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with sales and operations teams to prepare weekly financial forecasts.
  • Support the Finance Manager in annual budget planning and forecasting.
  • Manage trade receivables and oversee local and foreign trade payables.
  • Handle daily cashbook activities and bank reconciliations, including corporate credit card oversight.
  • Manage foreign currency transactions and fluctuations.
  • Process intercompany transactions and manage Goods in Transit (GIT) reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and variance reports.
  • Analyze general ledger variances and adjust costs for operational accuracy.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations using Blackline.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, track CAPEX, and manage depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Contribute to drafting and implementing accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Review financial practices regularly and suggest improvements.
  • Supervise and review work of junior accounting staff.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • BCompt degree or CIMA (Management Level completed).
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Financial Accountant, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Experience in implementing and interpreting costing models.
  • Proficient with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Syspro).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Macros.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
