Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level accounting education with honours.
  • CA with 2–3 years post-articles commercial experience or CIMA with 2–3 years commercial experience or BCom Honours with 3–5 years commercial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook) and Excel; Pastel or similar accounting system experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and schedules.
  • Analyze financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods with actionable insights.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end processes including journals, accruals and reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and supporting ledgers.
  • Support budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Assist with supplier payments and reconciliations; manage foreign payments and exchange-control requirements.
  • Support ERP implementation and continuous improvement of finance processes.

Job description

Austell Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the overall financial health of the organisation.

This role will work collaboratively across departments, providing accurate financial reporting, analysis and insights to support effective business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and supporting schedules.
  • Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, providing clear explanations and actionable insights.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end processes, including journals, accruals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and supporting ledgers.
  • Assist with annual budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Prepare and process local and foreign supplier payment batches and resolve supplier-related queries.
  • Reconcile stock receipts, purchase orders, supplier invoices and third-party warehouse records.
  • Maintain approved product pricing and support finance requirements relating to new product launches.
  • Maintain effective financial controls and support statutory, internal, external and B-BBEE audits.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and reconciliations relating to foreign payments, imports and exchange-control requirements.
  • Support ERP implementation, system integrations and continuous improvement of finance processes and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external service providers to resolve financial and operational matters.
Education
  • Bachelor of Accounting with Honours.
Experience

Candidates should meet one of the following experience pathways:

  • CA with 2–3 years' post-articles commercial experience; or
  • CIMA with 2–3 years' commercial experience; or
  • BCom Honours with 3–5 years' commercial experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
  • Good knowledge of Pastel or a similar accounting system.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time-management and planning skills.
  • Deadline-driven with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to use initiative and work collaboratively across departments.
