Job Title: Senior Above the Line (ATL) Media Planner

Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg

Overview

The Above the Line (ATL) Media Planner is responsible for developing and executing effective media plans that maximize reach and impact through traditional media channels such as TV, radio, print, and outdoor advertising. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the media landscape, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate client objectives into successful media strategies.

Some working outside standard hours may be necessary.

Responsibilities
  1. Produce detailed TV, radio, and print plans based on strategies provided by the strategist.
  2. Assist with media strategies for ATL campaigns, including TV, radio, print, and outdoor advertising.
  3. Collaborate with the outdoor planner for out-of-home (OOH) plans, including booking and Proof of Flighting (POF) documentation.
  4. Conduct market research to identify target audiences, media consumption habits, and perform competitive analysis.
  5. Produce reach curves and perform optimization analyses for strategic input.
  6. Provide guidance on the best performing titles, channels, programs, and stations for optimal delivery.
  7. Obtain media schedule approvals from clients.
  8. Assist the buying team in chasing outstanding creative materials from clients and partners.
  9. Attend internal and external client status meetings and share notes prior to meetings.
  10. Manage the Cost Estimate (CE) and Purchase Order (PO) process, ensuring accurate tracking with buyers.
  11. Plan and allocate media budgets to ensure optimal reach and frequency.
  12. Negotiate and purchase media space and time from outlets.
  13. Monitor and analyze campaign performance, making adjustments to optimize results.
  14. Prepare and update media plans, schedules, and reports for clients and stakeholders.
  15. Produce and deliver Post Campaign Reports with insights.
  16. Respond to global reporting requirements within deadlines.
  17. Maintain good relationships with media platforms and vendors.
  18. Load plans onto Publicis Planning tools for booking and billing.
  19. Stay updated with industry trends, new media opportunities, and emerging technologies.
  20. Collaborate with the creative team to ensure asset delivery aligns with strategies.
  21. Manage relationships with media vendors and partners.
  22. Keep timesheets current.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in media planning, particularly in ATL channels.
  • Proficiency with media planning tools and software.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
