Seed Production Breeding Technical Trainee

Job Purpose:

This individual will be involved in all aspects of shed operations, seed preparation, seed shipping, field activities, nursery planting, pollinations, data capturing, harvesting, and inventory management, including related computer software and applications.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Perform computer-related activities, including handheld data collection, data management, barcoding functions, and support for all day-to-day shed and field activities.
• Coordinate and assist in seed processing operations such as seed shelling, packaging, treating, and packet arrangement.
• Coordinate and assist with all field operations including planting nurseries, pollination, data collection, and harvesting of nurseries.
• Provide support to the Breeder and Research Associate.
• Assist in implementing site safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
• Participate actively in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies.
• Be prepared for road travel and time away from home when working at MSP location, if needed.
• Work on weekends during peak season for pollinations and shed operations.

Qualifications and Competencies:

• Diploma/BSc degree in agronomy, plant science, or a related discipline, or 3 years of agricultural research experience with an agricultural-related diploma.
• Basic knowledge of crop production, farming practices, and farm equipment operation.
• Leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs, with the ability to learn new software.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
