Placements24 is seeking a skilled Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst (Tier 2) to join our security team in Polokwane, Limpopo. You will monitor alerts, investigate incidents, and perform threat hunting using leading SIEM/EDR tools to protect client environments.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in CS/InfoSec or equivalent experience, 3+ years in a SOC role, and strong networking and OS knowledge.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years in a SOC analyst role or similar cybersecurity position.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and OSes (Windows, Linux).
• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar, ArcSight) and EDR solutions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts and events from SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, and other tools.
• Investigate and analyze security incidents to determine root cause and impact.
• Perform in-depth threat hunting to proactively identify and neutralize threats.
• Escalate complex incidents to Tier 3 or incident response teams.
• Develop and refine detection rules and correlation logic within the SIEM.
• Document all security incidents, investigations, and resolutions clearly.

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing cybersecurity services provider, is looking for a skilled and vigilant Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst (Tier 2) to join their team in Polokwane, Limpopo . In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring security alerts, investigating potential security incidents, and performing in-depth analysis to determine the scope and impact of threats. You will work with advanced security tools, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions, to protect client environments. The ideal candidate is a proactive threat hunter with a passion for cybersecurity and a strong understanding of various attack vectors and defensive measures. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts and events from various security tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, etc.).
• Investigate and analyze security incidents to determine root cause and impact.
• Perform in-depth threat hunting to proactively identify and neutralize potential threats.
• Escalate complex incidents to Tier 3 support or relevant incident response teams.
• Develop and refine detection rules and correlation logic within the SIEM.
• Document all security incidents, investigations, and resolutions clearly and accurately.
• Provide technical guidance and support to Tier 1 SOC analysts.
• Contribute to the improvement of SOC processes, playbooks, and procedures.
• Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques.
• Participate in on-call rotation as required.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a SOC analyst role or similar cybersecurity position. Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S), operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security concepts. Hands‑on experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar, ArcSight) and EDR solutions. Knowledge of common attack vectors, malware analysis, and incident response methodologies. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and collaboration in Polokwane, Limpopo . Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, GSEC, or similar are advantageous. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
