COMPANY DESCRIPTION : Our client is a recognised resource in the design and installation of data, voice and video solutions and they are looking for a Security Installation Team Leader to join their team as soon as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION : The Security Installation Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a team of security installation technicians. This role involves leading the installation and maintenance of security systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. The team leader will ensure high-quality service delivery, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and effective coordination among team members to meet project deadlines and customer expectations.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Team Leadership and Supervision:
  • Team Management: Ensure the team is motivated, well-trained, and performing to standards. This includes managing daily tasks, assigning responsibilities, and providing guidance and support to team members.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate the performance of installation technicians, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Training and Development: Identify skills gaps within the team and organize ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
  • Installation Process Management:
    • Project Planning and Coordination: Oversee the planning and scheduling of security system installations, ensuring adherence to timelines and customer expectations.
    • Quality Control: Ensure that all security installations are done to the highest standards, following manufacturer instructions, industry regulations, and company protocols.
    • Problem Solving: Address and resolve any technical issues that arise during the installation process, ensuring minimal disruption and rework.
  • Customer Relationship Management:
    • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure that the clients' needs and expectations are met or exceeded throughout the installation process. This includes clear communication with the customer, managing any concerns, and ensuring timely completion.
    • Post-Installation Support: Ensure that customers are fully satisfied with the installation and provide any necessary follow-up services, including troubleshooting or user training on the new system.
  • Health, Safety, and Compliance:
    • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all installations are carried out in compliance with safety regulations, including the safe use of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
    • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure installations comply with local, state, and national regulations related to security systems, electrical work, data protection, and privacy laws.
    • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate any potential risks or hazards on-site to avoid accidents or equipment damage.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • System Knowledge: Demonstrate a deep understanding of the security systems being installed (e.g., CCTV, access control, alarm systems) and provide guidance to team members on installation best practices and troubleshooting.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Progress Reports: Provide regular updates to management on installation progress, issues, and completed tasks.
    • Documentation: Ensure that all installation work is well-documented, including system configurations, maintenance schedules, and compliance certificates.
  • Communication:
    • Internal Communication: Maintain clear communication with other departments (e.g., project management) to ensure smooth project execution.
    • Customer Communication: Act as the primary point of contact with the customer, ensuring timely and accurate updates about installation timelines and any issues encountered.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Tool and Equipment Management: Ensure that all necessary tools, equipment, and supplies are available and maintained for installations.
    • Stock Control: Oversee the management and replenishment of inventory needed for future installations.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for streamlining installation processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Feedback Incorporation: Gather feedback from clients and team members to improve service quality and operational practices.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Check all equipment monthly to ensure that repairs are done regularly. Responsible for items that must be serviced and calibrated (certificates in this regard must be available).
  • Teamwork: Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure long-term goals and targets are met. Support company-wide initiatives to improve service levels to our customers. Participate in the development of new systems and processes.
  • COMPETENCIES :

    1. Technical Knowledge and Expertise:
    • Security Systems Knowledge: Proficient in various security system technologies, such as video surveillance (CCTV), alarm systems, access control systems, and monitoring solutions.
    • Installation and Configuration: In-depth understanding of how to install and configure security devices, wiring, and network setups.
    • Troubleshooting and Repair: Ability to diagnose issues with installed systems and provide solutions to fix malfunctions.
    • System Integration: Knowledge of integrating various systems (e.g., alarms, cameras, access control) into a cohesive security solution.
    • IT and Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with network configurations, IP-based security systems, and protocols, as many modern security systems are connected via networks.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead and supervise a team of security installers, ensuring tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
    • Training and Mentorship: Ability to train new team members in the technical and safety aspects of security system installations and provide ongoing support and development to the team.
    • Delegation and Resource Management: Effectively allocate resources, including personnel and equipment, to meet project demands.
    • Performance Monitoring: Track team performance and ensure adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and company policies.
  • Project Management and Coordination:
    • Project Planning: Create and manage installation project plans, timelines, and budgets. Ensure that installations are completed within specified timeframes.
    • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their needs, provide system recommendations, and ensure satisfaction with installation and setup.
    • Coordination with Other Teams: Work with other departments such as cable installers and management to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adherence to Regulations: Ensure installations comply with relevant local, state, or national security standards and regulations (e.g., building codes, fire codes).
    • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with the installation and operation of security systems, ensuring a safe work environment for the team and clients.
    • Safety Protocols: Ensure team members follow safety guidelines and procedures, particularly when working with electrical components, heights (for mounting cameras), and other potentially hazardous tasks.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:
    • Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex technical problems and devise effective solutions on the spot.
    • Adaptability: Ability to adjust plans based on unforeseen challenges, such as changes in the project scope, equipment malfunctions, or delays in deliveries.
    • Decision-Making: Make decisions under pressure, balancing factors like client needs and safety.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Verbal Communication: Effectively communicate with clients, stakeholders, and team members. This includes explaining complex technical issues in an understandable way.
    • Written Communication: Ability to write clear and detailed reports, emails, and documentation related to installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
    • Conflict Resolution: Handle disagreements or misunderstandings within the team or with clients in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Customer Service and Client Relationship:
    • Customer Interaction: Engage with clients to ensure satisfaction with the installation process, answering questions and addressing any concerns.
    • Follow-up Support: Provide ongoing support after installation, ensuring systems are functioning properly and offering maintenance or upgrades as needed.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability:
    • Keeping Up to Date with Technology: Stay informed about the latest trends in security technology and best practices for installation and integration.
    • Certifications and Training: Pursue certifications and training opportunities (e.g., for specific security systems or safety protocols) to ensure skills remain current.
  • Business and Operational Acumen:
    • Inventory Management: Ensure the team has the necessary equipment and tools for installation, while managing inventory to minimize waste or shortages.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

    • Matric Certification
    • Certification in the following advantageous: Hikvision / Cathexis / ZKTeco / Paradox
    • OSHA or equivalent safety training certification
    • Manufacturer-specific certifications for security systems (ZKTeco) are a plus

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

    • 3+ Years of experience in the security systems installation industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
    • In-depth knowledge of security technologies, including CCTV, alarm systems, access control, and network-based security systems
    • Valid driver's license
    • Travel may be required depending on the project locations
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team to success.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively
    • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials.
    • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for getting to and from work.
