The Section Surveyor is responsible for ensuring precision and compliance in all surveying activities across the operation. This role oversees regulatory inspections, maintains surveying control networks, and provides expert support to technical and mining teams while driving best practices and operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent
National Diploma or Degree in Mining Survey or Mineral Resource Management or related discipline
Professional membership with SAGC and/or IMSSA
Minimum of 5 years' experience in Mine surveying with at least 3 years in a Senior Surveying position
Proficiency in CAD Software (i.e. Mine Cad, MineRP CAD, Autodesk, Microstation)
Experience in Point Cloud processing Software (i.e., Cyclone 3DR, Infinity, Trimble Realworks, Leica Infinity etc)
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Sound spoken and written English communication skills
Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
Advanced understanding of operational working culture and dealing with operational delivery challenges
Extensive knowledge and understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and instruments
Proven experience in surveying massive mining excavations in 3D
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret survey data and identify discrepancies
Computer literacy - proficient in Microsoft Office packages
Duties And Responsibilities
Actively participate in, and lead interventions aimed at contributing to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and ensuring compliance with specified legislation, SHE policies and procedures and, operational standards, instructions and governance requirements
Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions
Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards
Ensure full compliance with the requirements of Chapter 17 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) with regards to surveying, mapping and mine plans and any other relevant regulations and acts
Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained
Develop and implement skills and activities that enhance team performance and align with operational requirements, organisational objectives, and sound mining practices
Oversee the annual calibration and servicing of all survey equipment to ensure optimal accuracy and functionality
Establish and maintain an accurate and reliable surveying control network across the asset, both surface and underground, ensuring compliance with Chapter 17 of the Mine Health and Safety Act, alignment with operational requirements, and adherence to industry standards for precision and data integrity
Provide professional service and support to the asset, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment with the Mining and Technical Services sections' needs and objectives
Conduct regular research on industry best practices and provide strategic recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
Oversee the Survey information recording systems and relevant data backup to maintain accuracy and integrity
Effectively manage capital and operating budget expenditures to ensure alignment with departmental targets and financial objectives
