Overview

We are seeking a Casual Scientific Officer to join our dedicated team within Glenside, SA. Your role will be to participate in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, working as part of a dedicated team.

Duties include microbiology work, maintenance of instrumentation and equipment, and compliance with accreditation and quality assurance requirements. The preferred applicants will be flexible, punctual, self-motivated, display initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in day-to-day laboratory operations as part of a dedicated team.
  • Perform microbiology tasks and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and quality assurance requirements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, reliability, initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Laboratory Science or an AIMS-accredited equivalent as a minimum.
  • Relevant experience in microbiology, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience plate reading in a diagnostic setting.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience using manual kits for identification of bacteria, use of Maldi-TOF, good working knowledge of antibiotics, reading of gram stains and quality control processes.
  • Desirable but not essential: experience in veterinary pathology laboratory, parasitology, mycology, cell counts and fluid analysis, plate setup and media making.
  • Exceptional communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to contribute towards delivering customer-focused services.
  • Own transport and availability to participate in weekend and evening rosters including public holidays.
