School & Instructional Leadership (South Africa)

Are you a culture and instructional leader looking to serve an organization and passionate about the future of Africa? Nova Pioneer is seeking an outstanding culture and instructional leader to serve as School Leader (Principal) at our Ruimsig Secondary School (Grades 8-12) in South Africa. This is an opportunity to help create a transformative school model focused on the future of Africa's youth.

ABOUT THE ROLE: Nova Pioneer already operates 15 schools across the continent—nine in Johannesburg and six in Nairobi. Before assuming the School Leader position, you will undergo core training designed to prepare you to lead in the Nova Pioneer way, supported by participation in the Emerging Leaders Program. The training will be tailored based on your prior experience.

This includes shadowing a current School Leader and gaining experience with coaching teachers using the Nova Pioneer system.

Key responsibilities include:

Living the Nova Culture

  • Embrace Nova Pioneer's values and promote them to students, staff, faculty, parents, and the community.
  • Model the culture principles inside and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain positive, constructive, and professional relationships with teachers, students, families, and colleagues.
  • Attend daily team meetings, weekly staff meetings, and other school events.
  • Contribute to the regional leadership team to support the growth and health of the Nova Pioneer brand.

The Head of School, with support from the Director of Schools and the Chief Schools Officer, will oversee:

Vision and Leadership

  • Manage daily school operations and support all community members in fulfilling the mission, vision, and instructional model.
  • Articulate and implement a compelling vision for the school's culture and program.
  • Establish and maintain a vibrant school culture aligned with Nova's core principles.
  • Manage teaching, learning, and academic outcomes.
  • Lead the school leadership team and teachers using the Managing the Nova Pioneer Way (MNPW) framework.
  • Plan and support school events, community activities, and marketing initiatives to increase enrollment and retention.
  • Collaborate with other functions like Talent, Operations, Admissions, and Marketing.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Oversee school management, including timetable planning, duty schedules, and student/teacher data systems.
  • Analyze assessment data to improve student performance.
  • Manage budgets and oversee facilities and HR matters.
  • Lead aftercare programs and oversee admissions and enrollment efforts.

Teacher Development

  • Coach and develop leaders within the school, including Deans and Grade Level leads.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching quality and support professional development.
  • Foster collaboration among teachers and support a positive learning environment.

Communication

  • Develop effective communication channels with students, staff, parents, and the community.

  • 5+ years of experience in high-expectations school settings, including instructional leadership roles.
  • Recognized as an effective teacher with a strong track record of coaching and performance improvement.
  • Community leadership skills, with a caring and strategic mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail, conscientiousness, and a passion for organizational culture.
  • Desire to develop leadership skills and transform the lives of African youth.
