Pinelands High School in Cape Town is seeking two School Counsellors (one full-time and one part-time) to join the Student Wellbeing Team starting 6 January 2027. The role involves providing individual and group counselling, crisis intervention, and coordinating with guardians and staff to support student wellbeing.

Successful candidates will have an Honours level counselling degree (or Masters in Psychology or Honours in Social Work) and registration with a professional body.

Qualifications

• Honours level Counselling degree or Master's in Psychology; registered with HPCSA/SACSSP or equivalent.
• Experience counselling adolescents; five+ years is advantageous.
• Strong counselling and crisis response skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to build trust with students and families.
• Cultural sensitivity and ethical practice in a diverse school setting.

Responsabilités

• Provide individual and group counselling for students facing emotional, social, behavioural or family difficulties.
• Assess needs, provide crisis/trauma intervention and arrange referrals with external practitioners.
• Support and guide students' guardians and coordinate with staff for plan monitoring.
• Develop school-based wellness programs, psychoeducation and staff training.
• Contribute to learner support planning, including orientation and enrichment activities.
• Maintain accurate case records, ensure confidentiality and safeguarding compliance.
