MAIN PURPOSE

The BU Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing Lamproom operations across multiple sites, ensuring strict compliance with mining safety regulations and company standards. This role involves leadership of operational teams, client relationship management, budget and financial control, implementation of automation and technology, and comprehensive asset and environmental management. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, operational insight, financial acumen, and a deep understanding of mining compliance and safety standards. The candidate will also be required to assist the head of SBU to grow, and expand the business creating sustainable and profitable income.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operational Management & Compliance

  • Manage and oversee all Lamproom operations to ensure alignment with legal, organisational, and client standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) regulations and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Implement and uphold Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) standards.
  • Monitor and manage equipment such as portable lighting, self-contained self-rescuers, gas detection instruments, and other safety-critical devices.
  • Plan and execute operational efficiency programmes across sites.

2. Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead, mentor, and train Lamproom coordinators to maintain a high-performance, safety-focused culture.
  • Support the professional development and upskilling of staff under supervision.
  • Coordinate daily activities and ensure alignment of on-site operations with business objectives.

3. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Develop and manage budgets in line with operational requirements and financial targets.
  • Track expenditures, manage cost controls, and optimise resource allocation.
  • Compile and submit statutory and operational reports, including asset logs, non-returned equipment reports, and equipment maintenance records.

4. Client Engagement & Contract Negotiation

  • Serve as the primary contact for client relations within the business unit.
  • Negotiate and manage service-level agreements (SLAs) to ensure service quality and contractual compliance.
  • Drive the retention and expansion of existing contracts while exploring new business opportunities.

5. Productivity, Technology & Automation

  • Drive productivity improvements through monitoring of KPIs and operational benchmarks.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline Lamproom functions.
  • Support the integration of technology platforms to improve reporting, tracking, and compliance.

6. Equipment & Asset Management

  • Ensure all assets are maintained, calibrated, and recorded according to site and legal requirements.
  • Oversee proper usage, repair, and replacement of faulty, damaged, or missing AMS systems.
  • Drive Asset Management development and the evolution of the product.

7. Housekeeping & Environmental Management

  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and fully functional Lamproom environment throughout all responsible sites managed.
  • Ensure hazardous and environmentally sensitive waste is disposed of in accordance with legal and site-specific guidelines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Higher certificate in Management
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a Lamproom or mining operations environment.
  • Strong understanding of DMRE regulations and South African health and safety laws applicable to mining.
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation, budgeting, and financial oversight.
  • Leadership experience managing multi-site teams or coordinating across departments.
  • Familiarity with digital systems and automation technologies relevant to mining operations.
