Job summary

PwC South Africa's Technology & Innovation Centre seeks an integration-focused AI engineer to connect AI solutions with client systems across enterprise platforms.

Based in the Innovation Lab, you will design, deploy, and scale AI-powered solutions, mentor juniors, and ensure governance, data privacy, and ethics while collaborating with stakeholders and Forward-Deployed Engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Data Science/IS or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• AI Development & Systems Integration: integrate AI models with client systems and data sources, use low-code/no-code platforms, develop AI models, collaborate with engineers, monitor and fine-tune performance.
• Client Alignment & Solution Delivery: assess client needs, train and support clients on AI solutions, document development process for handover.
• Practice Leadership & Technical Governance: mentor junior engineers, stay current on AI trends and tools, ensure compliance with AI ethics and data privacy standards.

About the Agentic Innovation Lab

The Innovation Lab serves as SATIC’s AI engineering hub. It focuses on solving complex business problems by designing, building, and scaling AI-powered solutions (Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation) to transform business operations.

The Role

This position sits at the intersection of enterprise systems integration, applied AI engineering, and practical, high-impact business application.

The role is "integration-focused", meaning the engineer connects AI solutions with existing platforms using both custom development and low-code/no-code tools. Operating from the Innovation Lab, the engineer partners with business stakeholders and Forward-Deployed Engineers to scale successful experiments into enterprise-grade applications.

Key responsibilities

1. AI Development & Systems Integration

• Integrate AI models and solutions with client systems, applications, and data sources.
• Use low-code/no-code platforms to accelerate delivery with minimal overhead.
• Develop AI models tailored to client requirements.
• Collaborate with Forward-Deployed Engineers, data scientists, and engineers to develop and deploy machine learning models.
• Monitor and fine-tune AI models for performance.

2. Client Alignment & Solution Delivery

• Assess client needs and business challenges.
• Train and support clients on implemented AI solutions.
• Document the AI development process for smooth handover.

3. Practice Leadership & Technical Governance

• Mentor junior engineers and shape technical best practices.
• Stay current on AI trends, technologies, and integration tools.
• Ensure compliance with AI ethics and data privacy standards.

Experience & Skills

Domain Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience); Microsoft/Azure certifications are advantageous.
• 4+ years’ experience in programming, AI, or machine learning.
• Ability to integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems, platforms, and APIs.

Engineering and AI

• Experience designing, integrating, deploying, and operationalizing AI solutions using custom code, AI frameworks, cloud/MLOps tools, APIs, enterprise systems, and low-code/no-code platforms.
• Track record leading AI projects from concept to deployment, including analysis, stakeholder alignment, planning, support, documentation, and handover.
• Strong grasp of AI, ML, GenAI, LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, NLP, computer vision, data science, statistics, and visualization.
• Proficiency in Python.

Communication

• Ability to explain AI concepts clearly and deliver polished demonstrations to senior stakeholders.
