Job description

My client based in Cape Town is currently looking for a SAP Finance and Controlling Specialist to join their team on a permanent basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform SAP S/4HANA configuration, maintenance and functional support across Record to Report (R2R), General Ledger, intercompany reconciliation and financial closing processes.
• Analyse and resolve SAP FI incidents, service requests, posting errors, intercompany mismatches and recurring operational issues.
• Configure and maintain General Ledger structures, chart of accounts, ledger rules, journal processing and financial reporting settings.
• Support intercompany reconciliation processes, balance matching, cross-company postings, elimination structures and discrepancy resolution.
• Configure and support General Ledger rollups, ledger summarisation, financial statement versions and reporting aggregation.
• Maintain integration between General Ledger and relevant sub-ledger and Controlling processes to support accurate financial postings and trial balances.
• Support period-end and month-end closing activities, financial close schedules and the resolution of closing exceptions.
• Perform root-cause analysis, implement approved configuration fixes and document incident resolutions.
• Prepare functional specifications, test cases, configuration documentation, knowledge articles and change impact assessments.
• Execute unit and integration testing and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system changes and enhancements.
• Identify opportunities to improve R2R workflows, reduce manual workarounds, streamline reconciliations and improve financial closing efficiency.
• Participate in business workshops and engage with Finance teams, operational users and SAP Centre of Excellence (CoE) stakeholders.
• Support change implementation through configuration transports, user communication, training material and post-implementation stabilisation.
• Use SAP Fiori and available AI-assisted SAP tools to support research, functional analysis, configuration verification and documentation, ensuring all outputs comply with approved design standards and internal controls.
• Prioritise incidents and service requests according to business requirements, closing deadlines, operational urgency and risk.
• Escalate complex FI/CO configuration issues, cross-module dependencies, control-related risks and architectural decisions to senior specialists or the appropriate design authority.
• Work independently within approved support procedures, configuration standards and change management processes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Financial Management, Information Systems or Information Technology.
• 3-6 years of experience in SAP FI, Record to Report (R2R), General Ledger or a related SAP functional specialist role.
• Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA configuration, functional support, testing and maintenance.
• Proven experience in General Ledger (FI-GL), journal postings, chart of accounts, period-end closing and financial reporting processes.
• Practical experience in intercompany reconciliation, cross-company postings, general ledger rollups and trial balance reporting.
• Understanding of integration between General Ledger and Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Asset Accounting (AA) and Controlling (CO).
• Knowledge of Master Data Governance (MDG) and General Ledger or intercompany master data dependencies.
• Experience in incident management, root-cause analysis, functional specifications, system testing and process documentation.
• Experience using JIRA for incident management and SAP Solution Manager (SOLMAN) for transport and change management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Visio, with working knowledge of Confluence.
• SAP FI, SAP S/4HANA Financial Accounting or related functional certification will be advantageous.
• Exposure to SAP Closing Cockpit, SAP Intercompany Matching and Reconciliation (ICMR), SAP Joule for Consultants or automated financial closing solutions will be advantageous.
