1. Project Overview

The Client is initiating a comprehensive SAP Data Volume Management (DVM) Archiving Project aimed at optimizing data lifecycle management, enhancing system performance, and ensuring compliance with data retention policies. The initiative includes the implementation and integration of OpenText xECM , ADA module inclusion , and SAP ILM-aligned archiving strategies .

2. Role Purpose

The SAP DVM Consultant will be responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of a DVM and data archiving strategy , with a strong focus on leveraging OpenText xECM and ADA (Archiving Data Adapter) module capabilities. The role also includes project coordination responsibilities , ensuring on-time, quality delivery across all workstreams.

3. Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities :

  • Design and implement SAP Data Volume Management strategies in accordance with best practices and SAP recommendations.
  • Lead and execute data archiving activities using standard SAP tools (e.g., SARA, ILM) and OpenText components.
  • Deploy and configure OpenText Extended ECM (xECM) for SAP Solutions in alignment with the City''s document and record management strategy.
  • Ensure correct ADA (Archiving Data Adapter) integration to connect SAP archiving with OpenText archive servers.
  • Configure SAP ArchiveLink and OAC0 for external storage integration.
  • Collaborate with Basis, Infrastructure, and Information Governance teams to ensure smooth system and storage alignment.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation , including configuration guides, procedures, and knowledge transfer packs.

Project & Stakeholder Management :

  • Create and maintain detailed project work plans , timelines, and milestones aligned to the archiving roadmap.
  • Provide regular status updates and risk reports to project stakeholders, including City of Johannesburg’s IT and Records Management teams.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for business process owners and technical staff.
  • Coordinate with OpenText and SAP vendors for support, patching, and troubleshooting during implementation.
  • Support the governance and compliance framework (POPIA, records retention schedules, etc.).
  • 4. Minimum Qualifications & Experience

    Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP System Administration (desirable).
  • OpenText xECM and / or ADA module certification (advantageous).
  • PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent project management certification (preferred).
  • Professional Experience

  • Minimum 6–8 years ’ experience in SAP, with at least 3 full-cycle DVM or archiving implementations .
  • Proven experience with OpenText xECM for SAP Solutions implementation and configuration.
  • Strong hands-on experience with :
  • SAP SARA and Archive Development Kit (ADK)
  • SAP ILM (Information Lifecycle Management)
  • ArchiveLink and ADA integration
  • Storage systems and content repositories
  • Experience with public sector or municipal clients will be an added advantage.
  • 5. Core Competencies

    Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of SAP archiving objects, DVM workbench, and ILM rules.
  • Familiarity with SAP ECC and S / 4HANA environments .
  • OpenText xECM configuration and document type mapping.
  • End-to-end knowledge of archive file handling, retrieval, and audit processes.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations .
  • Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills .

  • 6. Duration and Availability

  • Start Date : Immediate
  • Project Duration : 6–12 months (potential for extension based on project scope)
  • Working Hours : Standard SA business hours (8 hours per day, Monday to Friday between 08h00 – 18h00); flexibility may be required during cutover and testing phases.
