Job description

Main Purpose

Sample Prep Operator is responsible for the critical role of transforming raw geological samples into consistent, homogeneous subsamples that can be accurately analysed in the laboratory.

Duties

  • Familiarize with company policies, protocols, and Sample Preparation work procedures
  • Housekeeping and proper handling of samples and related consumables and equipment
  • Follow all HSE and QC protocols of the Sample Prep department and the laboratory as a whole
  • Exercise flexibility with assisting in other lab departments with appropriate training provided
  • Lay out of client samples
  • Check samples against information on sample submittal form
  • Completely familiarize with the blue weigh system function for sample receiving weight entering
  • Perform at least two of listed routine Prep tasks below independently
    • Layout samples on drying racks and dry samples in oven
    • Crush /split samples and keep rejects for appropriate storage
    • Pulverize samples using two pulverizing machines simultaneously
    • Screen sieve soil samples
    • Record receiving weight and transfer pulp to laboratory sample envelopes
  • Daily housekeeping and the removal of waste to the waste disposal bins
  • Perform other duties as line manager sees fit, with training provided

  • Practice and adherence to the ALS Health and Safety Foundation Standards
  • Refer to Annexure for that outlines the procedure that applies to all ALS sites and activities. It outlines the requirements associated with ALS’s management structure and organisation as they relate to safety, occupational health, and environmental protection.
  • This procedure addresses the areas of appointments, accountability, and individual responsibilities.
  • Practice and adherence to the ALS company core values
  • Abide by the ALS company policies and procedures.
  • Always follow all ALS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Qualifications

  • Fit enough for manual work
  • Forklift license, basic computer use, safety awareness
