Sales and Service Representative

A leading provider of hydraulic hoses and solutions is searching for a driven sales and service representative to encourage maximum sales of the Company's products in the assigned regional territory and/or customer listing, in accordance with laid down policy.

The incumbent is to ensure customer requests are professionally handled by providing accurate product information and price quotations to customers. At all times, build prestige and goodwill for the company and implement an account management plan to develop a positive long-term relationship with assigned accounts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develops annual sales plan, including sales budgets, promotions, and account management activities.
  2. Collate customer, competitor, and market information as basis from which to set goals for the effective growth of the company.
  3. Develop a sound knowledge of the territory/customer base and its potential.
  4. Protect and maintain existing business and obtain new customer business either directly or indirectly.
  5. Submit sales activity and forecast reports to the Sales Manager.
  6. Maintain daily planner & diaries/day books and record all information on Microsoft Outlook.
  7. Respond immediately to customer inquiries/information needs and provide positive, courteous service to customers.
  8. Ensure client awareness of how we operate and the services and products available to them.
  9. Assist customers in preparing/processing credit applications and seek approval from the Sales/Finance and General Manager on pricing and payment terms prior to submission to the credit department.
  10. Aim to achieve or exceed set sales targets monthly and annually.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
  12. Undertake involvement in our internal Quality Assurance System by supporting quality objectives by initiating action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities, identifying and recording issues, and initiating, recommending, and/or providing solutions to issues.
  13. Deal promptly with any request, query, or complaint from customers.
  14. Where such matters are beyond his scope and authority, pass onto the appropriate person and follow-up to finalization.
  15. Ensure that expenses are kept within reasonable limits and provide receipts for all claims via Expense Report Management System.
  16. Ensure our policies and procedures are always observed.
  17. Be familiar with advertising policy, materials, and sales aids and ensure that they are used correctly.
  18. Ensure that all pricing is kept up to date on the Pronto matrix system in line with company policy.
  19. Coordinate activities with Customer Service, Sales and Marketing, Warehousing, and Finance.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  1. At least 5 years of experience in a similar sales position with a proven track record and achievements.
  2. Knowledge of all products and services in both Hydraulic & Industrial, their uses, prices, etc., is essential.
  3. Knowledge of the Pronto IT system is desirable.
  4. Excellent personal presentation with good communication skills.
  5. A proven good working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to work well with people is essential.
  6. Competent in assessing customer needs and identifying sales opportunities.
  7. Excellent problem-solving ability.
  8. Ability to work independently.
  9. Demonstrated sales skills and achievements in a related industry position for a sustained period are desirable.
  10. Knowledge of hydraulic and Industrial systems and machinery is essential.
  11. A Grade 12 qualification is a definite requirement.
  12. Tertiary education in the sales field is desirable.
  13. Own reliable mode of transport.
