Job summary

SA Metal Group is seeking a Scrap Metal Buyer to source and purchase scrap metal from diverse sources, while building and maintaining supplier relationships and meeting pricing targets.

The role requires a Grade 12 certificate, 3+ years in buying or sales (preferably in metal recycling), a valid driver’s license, and strong Excel skills. You must be prepared to work overtime and report to the Divisional Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Grade 12 certificate.
At least 3 years of buying or sales experience; preferably in manufacturing, engineering or scrap and recycling.
Valid Driver’s license and own reliable transport.
Computer literacy required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Must be prepared to work overtime when required.

Job description

A Scrap Metal Buyer (“Buyer”) is responsible for sourcing and purchasing all types of scrap metal, arising from several different sources.

The Buyer engages with scrap suppliers, negotiating terms to secure material at the most competitive price while achieving both individual and team targets.

The role further involves managing, developing, and maintaining customer relationships, as well as identifying and securing new scrap supply opportunities.

A Buyer must at all times conduct himself/herself in such a manner that reflects the professional and ethical values of the Group.

Qualifying Criteria

A minimum Grade 12 certificate
At least 3 years of buying or sales experience; preferably in manufacturing, engineering or scrap and recycling industry
Valid Driver’s license and own reliable transport
Computer literacy
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
Must be prepared to work overtime when required
