Sales Manager
Our manufacturing client based in Durban is looking for a Sales Manager to join their team.
The purpose of the role is to manage and lead the department to achieve goals and targets outlined in the sales budget, taking responsibility for the overall management cycle with a key focus on inventory management and pricing within agreed deadlines, compliance, and risk frameworks.
To investigate, formulate, and develop feasible new business concepts to grow and sustain the overall business in alignment with targeted strategies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify new business opportunities against targeted plans.
- Lead projects from inception through to full implementation.
- Take full responsibility for performance management and development of all direct reports.
- Actively monitor related industries and commodity trends to compile, coordinate, and present a successful annual and mid-term budget process (including income statement, cash flow forecasting, working capital, and return on capital employed calculations).
- Manage monthly purchases and sales, coordinate with operations for value-add processing, and inventory management by ensuring tight daily controls against targeted levels.
- Negotiate buying prices to ensure the best return, as well as accurate pricing controls and contractual planned reviews.
- Manage short and medium-term business planning, including accurate, timely weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Prepare sales and gross profit analyses and scheduled finance reports on time and in full.
- Review inventory rundown sheets or sales plans with each team member to ensure inventory pipelines and sales plans are managed correctly with optimal coordination between all internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and control sales and procurement processes to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., B Supply Chain / B.Tech Degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering or Materials Technology).
- Experience in supply chain management or as an account executive in the Metals/Recycling sector, with exposure to financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
- Business automation experience and SAP proficiency are preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of different metals/commodities across industries; automotive or related industry experience is preferred but not essential.
- Strong understanding of sales operations, new business development, negotiations, and management of technical key accounts.
- Research and analysis capabilities.
- Project management experience with a successful track record of leading and implementing projects.
- Strong management skills and experience managing in a matrix structure.
