About the Sales Manager role

Our small but dynamic team in South Africa is essential to driving Paystack's growth and success. We are responsible for finding, building and nurturing relationships with businesses of all sizes, from startups to global enterprise accounts. Our goal is to become the preferred and most reliable payment provider in South Africa. Sales plays a pivotal role at Paystack, as it directly impacts our ability to expand our customer base and deliver tailored payment solutions.

We're seeking a self-starter with a proven ability to thrive in high-growth, dynamic environments. You should have experience navigating ambiguity, solving complex problems with minimal oversight, and successfully scaling a sales team. Excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of customer needs are key to this role. This full-time role is based in-country and reports directly to the Country Lead.

Key responsibilities

As a Sales Manager you’ll:

  • Recruit, train, and lead a motivated Sales team for Paystack in South Africa.
  • Source, sell, and close your own deals while achieving both individual and team sales goals.
  • Leverage data to drive decisions and deliver results.
  • Partner with senior leadership to shape long-term strategies for the team and oversee day-to-day operations focused on sales performance and growth targets.
  • Take ownership of revenue generation and contribute to the expansion of our product offerings.
  • Collaborate with product, marketing, sales, and finance teams to develop effective go-to-market strategies.
  • Work cross-functionally to align Paystack’s solutions with customer needs.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the team to enhance consultative, solution-oriented sales skills.
  • Inspire and guide team members to foster career development.

Requirements

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • 5-7+ years of relevant experience, with at least 2+ years of people management
  • Experience leading sales, new business, or operations in a high-growth technology setting
  • Proven success in new business sales or customer upselling roles
  • Ability to hire, train, and coach a high-performance sales team
  • Strong relationship-building skills with strategic clients and industry leaders
  • Experience bringing new products to market
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and foster relationships with technical customers
